Bugs
Mosquitoes at an outdoor Florida wedding.
Nobody puts this on a planning checklist and everybody remembers it afterwards. It is a solved problem, but only if somebody solves it a few days beforehand.

Timing
The hour matters more than the month.
Mosquitoes are worst at dusk and just after, which in Florida is very often exactly when your ceremony ends and cocktails begin. A wedding that finishes its outdoor portion before sunset avoids most of the problem without doing anything else.
Standing water within a short distance is the other driver. After heavy rain the days before, expect more of them.
What actually works
In order of how much difference it makes.
- A property treatment a day or two before the event. This is the one that does the heavy lifting.
- Moving fans onto the terrace. Mosquitoes are weak fliers and a breeze genuinely defeats them.
- Repellent available where guests are, not in someone’s handbag. A basket by the bar is enough.
- Clearing standing water nearby in the week before.
- Citronella, which looks lovely and does very little. Treat it as decor.
Ask the venue directly
The question is whether it is scheduled or reactive.
Any outdoor venue in Florida will tell you they handle it. Ask whether treatment is scheduled ahead of events as routine, or arranged if someone complains. Those are very different answers and only one of them helps you.
The estate is treated as part of event preparation, and the Manor Barn, the Garden Room and the BoHo are all enclosed, which is the other half of the answer. More on how the property handles Florida conditions is on the rain plan.
