Money

Four questions that expose the real number.

  • What is the all-in cost for my date and my guest count?

    A venue that can only give you a starting rate is telling you the number moves. Ask what it moves with.

  • What is not included?

    Every venue has a list. A venue that says "nothing" has not understood the question or is not answering it.

  • What are the service charges, and are they on top of the total?

    This is where a quote quietly grows by twenty percent.

  • When is the balance due, and what happens if we need to move the date?

    Ask for it in writing on the day you tour, not the day you sign.

The day itself

Four questions about what actually happens.

  • Who is running my wedding, and will I meet them before the day?

    A coordinator you meet once at the sale and never again is a sales role, not an operations one.

  • What happens if it rains?

    Listen for whether the answer is a plan or a hope. A tent you pay for on the morning is a hope.

  • How long do we have the space, and what is the overtime rate?

    Sites that flip two weddings a day are running a schedule, not your evening.

  • Can we see the room set the way ours would be?

    Photographs are styled shoots more often than couples realize.

Vendors

Three that decide how much work lands on you.

  • Is the catering in house, and can we taste it before we commit?
  • Are we required to use a preferred list, and what does that list cost against the open market?
  • If something we bring in fails to turn up, whose problem is it on the day?

How to use the answers

Compare the totals, not the deposits.

Venues are usually compared on the booking fee, which is the one number that is not comparable. Put every venue you tour on the same sheet with the all-in figure for the same guest count, then compare.
