Permits
Permits for a barn wedding, and who is supposed to hold them.
The honest answer is that it depends entirely on whether you are hiring a licensed venue or putting a wedding on private land. Those are two completely different jobs.

At a licensed venue
The permits are the venue’s problem, and they already exist.
A venue that runs weddings every week holds its own occupancy approval, its own licensing for the bar, and its own insurance. You are not applying for anything. That is a large part of what the fee buys and it is rarely explained.
Ask any venue you tour to confirm in writing that alcohol service and occupancy are covered under their licenses and not yours. A venue that hedges on that question is telling you something.
On private land
This is where it becomes a project.
A wedding on a family property or a bare-land barn is a different exercise. Depending on guest numbers, structures, parking, alcohol and amplified music, you may be dealing with the county on several fronts at once, and the requirements are specific to the parcel.
We are a venue, not a permitting authority, so we will not publish a checklist that pretends to cover your parcel. Hernando County Building and Zoning is the office to call, and call them before you book anything else.
Worth asking about either way
The five that actually come up.
- Who holds the liquor license, and does it cover a private event on this date.
- What the occupancy limit is for the room you are standing in.
- Whether amplified music has a curfew, and what time it is.
- Whether any structure being brought in — a tent, a stage — needs its own approval.
- Whose insurance covers a guest injury, and can you see the certificate.
Here
All five are already answered.
The Manor Barn, the Garden Room and the BoHo are permanent, permitted buildings on a working wedding estate. Bar service, staff and insurance run under ours. Nothing about your day requires you to file anything with the county except the marriage license, and that process is here.
