Backup plans
How to build a rain backup that is a plan and not a hope.
Most rain plans fail the same way: they are a tent you have not paid for and a decision nobody owns. Here is how to test one before you sign.

The test
Ask what happens, then ask what it costs.
"We have a rain plan" is true of every venue in Florida. The question that separates them is what it costs and who arranges it on the morning.
If moving indoors triggers a tent hire, a room-flip fee or an overtime charge, that is not a backup. It is a contingent invoice, and it lands on the worst possible day.
Four questions on the tour
Ask them in this order.
Show me the indoor space, set for my guest count
Not the photograph. The room. Many indoor "backups" seat far fewer people than the lawn does.
What does moving indoors cost?
Get the number in writing. Zero is an acceptable answer. "It depends" is not.
How long does the change take, and does it come out of my hours?
A ninety-minute flip inside a six-hour booking is an hour and a half of your wedding.
Who decides, and by when?
A named role and a specific time, written into the contract.
Warning signs
Answers that should worry you.
- "We would put up a tent" — a tent ordered on the morning is a hope with a deposit attached.
- "The barn seats about half" — then half your guest list is standing outside in it.
- "We would call you and discuss it" — on your wedding morning, that call is the last thing you want.
- "There would be a small additional charge" — ask what small means, in dollars, today.
The structural answer
A property with more than one room does not need a backup.
The Manor Barn and the Garden Room each seat 150 under a roof. Moving is not an emergency measure here, it is just where the wedding happens instead. Same team, same price, no hire.
