Know the paperwork that actually makes your wedding legal before you book Saxon Manor.

A wedding venue contract and a Florida marriage license are two different legal documents, and mixing them up causes real problems. The venue agreement governs your date, your space, and what you're paying for. The marriage license is issued by the Hernando County Clerk's office and is the only thing that makes your marriage legal. Saxon Manor can hold your date, but only the state of Florida can marry you. Both parties must be 18 or older — Florida does not allow minors to marry, full stop. If you've read otherwise online, that information is wrong and out of date. Timing matters more than most couples expect. A Florida marriage license is valid for 60 days from the date it's issued, so getting it too early is as risky as getting it too late. If both of you are Florida residents, the state also imposes a three-day waiting period between application and issuance, unless you complete an approved premarital course. That course also cuts the license fee. None of this touches your venue booking directly, but it does mean the legal clock and the wedding-planning clock run on different tracks. Build the license into your final-month checklist, not your first one, and confirm both partners can appear in person with valid ID.

Officiants are a legal consideration too, and one couples often assume is settled by default. Whoever signs your marriage license needs to be authorized under Florida law to perform the ceremony — an ordained minister, judge, notary public, or clerk, depending on how they qualify. Our package includes an officiant as part of the ceremony, so this is one piece of paperwork you don't have to chase down separately. If you're bringing in a family member or friend to officiate instead, confirm their authorization with the Hernando County Clerk before the wedding, not after. A ceremony performed by someone without legal standing to do so is not a valid marriage, no matter how good it looked.

A wedding brings a lot of people, equipment, and alcohol into one place for one night, and someone has to be legally responsible for all of it. At Saxon Manor, our staff, bar service, and event coordination are part of the package, which means the liability questions that come with outside caterers or rented equipment mostly disappear. That's a legal consideration as much as a convenience one: fewer separate vendor contracts means fewer separate insurance policies and fewer gaps where something isn't covered. If you're comparing venues, ask directly who carries liability insurance for the reception itself, not just for individual vendors.

Alcohol service carries its own legal weight in Florida, and it's one of the more overlooked parts of venue planning. Bar staff need to be trained to check ID and refuse service appropriately, and the venue — not the couple — typically holds the liability for how alcohol is served on the property. Our bar and event staff are part of the all-inclusive package, so this responsibility sits with people trained for it, under one contract, rather than a rented bartender working under a separate agreement with different coverage. Ask any venue you're considering exactly who's serving your alcohol and who's accountable if something goes wrong.

Florals, photography, and DJ services are typically the last thing couples think of as a legal matter, but every outside vendor you bring in is another contract, another insurance certificate, and another point of coordination on the day. Our package includes a photographer, DJ, and florals through our sister company, Enchanted Design & Floral, which keeps that entire chain under one roof and one point of contact. If you do bring in an outside vendor for anything not covered in the package, confirm the venue allows it and ask what proof of insurance they require before the date is booked.
